October:  Dan “The Man” Ravizza

If you see a scruffy, flannel-laden young man wearing a newsboy cap and playing his mandolin around campus, please join all of us here at the Echo in congratulating Staff Writer Dan Ravizza on his achievement of Staff Member of the Month for October.

Ravizza came to WestConn after transferring from Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont.  He anticipates graduating in 2011.

As a writer, Ravizza constantly takes it upon himself to attack some of The Echo’s most challenging and time-consuming news assignments.  Examples include long-term projects such as an investigation of the Sodexo contract and communication between the university and downtown venues such as iCON.  Due to the inherent controversy of some of these pieces, they have yet to come to fruition, but Ravizza has nonehteless made important headway in exposing the truth.

In addition to writing weekly news articles for The Echo, Ravizza serves as a senator on the Student Government Association (SGA).  As part of his senatorial duties, he sits on both the Rules and President’s Issues and Initiatives Committees.  He has also been involved with the English Society, where he has served as treasurer.

Ravizza has most recently organized No Shave November, a fun event for WestConn students in which participants are putting their razors on hiatus for all 30 days of November.  At the end of the month, according to the event’s Facebook group,  a judge will award the most impressive facial hair with an unspecified prize.  While no females are known to be participating in the program, Ravizza has specified that it is “completely Title IX [compliant].”
