Student struck by vehicle on Westside Campus

A resident student was struck by a vehicle outside of Centennial Hall on Western Connecticut State University’s Westside Campus.

Danny Fitzpatrick, 21, was struck by a car driven by commuter student Timothy Silva, 22, at 5:20 p.m. on the night of Jan. 26.

WCSU Police reported that Fitzpatrick had just gotten off the shuttle bus and was crossing University Boulevard when he was struck. Fitzpatrick was taken from the scene by ambulance to Danbury Hospital for further treatment.

Chris Mesquita, junior, said he was heading to the parking lot when he saw the shuttle bus stop in front of Centennial Hall. Mesquita saw Fitzpatrick exit the bus, which was facing downhill, and begin to cross University Boulevard.

“[Fitzpatrick] couldn’t see the Subaru coming down the street. When the car saw the student he honked his horn and tried to brake but the ground was too wet and he slid right into the student,” Mesquita said.

According to Mesquita, multiple students came to Fitzpatrick’s aid. He was conscious and tried to sit up, but laid back down immediately. Students giving aid, directed traffic around the accident scene and called an ambulance for Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick is currently in fair condition at Danbury Hospital.

The incident is still under investigation by WCSU Police.
