Shame –The movie, Shame, starring Michael Fassbender looks to be an interesting film. Fassbender plays a sex addict who finds his personal life interrupted by his sister when she unexpectedly moves in with him.
He has recently established himself as one of Hollywood’s best, with stellar performances in Inglorious Bastards and
X-Men: First Class. There is a ton of Oscar buzz around this project, and Fassbender should be fantastic in the difficult role. Releases 12/7.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy – The cast list alone is staggering: Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, John Hurt and countless others.
It is based on a British espionage TV/book series of the same name that ran in the 70s, and from the looks of the trailer, it does not look like it will disappoint. Releases 12/9.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows – One of the films you should look forward to over break is Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
Guy Ritchie has made some fantastic films over the years, combining very stylish action with witty humor in a way that no one else can. His first Sherlock Holmes (2009) was a quality film, but certainly fell short of expectations for Ritchie fans.
It seems most of the problems with the first have been alleviated (less Rachel McAdams, better script), so this should be stellar. Releases 12/16.
The Adventures of Tin Tin – Say what you will about the fact that the word “unicorn” was originally in the title, but there remains hope for this one.
Steven Spielberg is directing, Peter Jackson is producing, and Simon Pegg& Nick Frost are in it, if that alone is not enough to get you the least bit excited, then you might want to re-check your pulse. Releases 12/21.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – Full disclosure from Steve Golden: I have not read, nor have I seen the original Millennium trilogy, but I am still seriously hyped for this movie regardless.
David Fincher (The Social Network, Seven, Fight Club) directing and Daniel Craig (aka JAMES BOND) starring is more than enough to get me in line to see this. Releases 12/21.
